Stimulate Your Brain with a Special Exhibit This Weekend

In recognition of Women’s History Month (2017), the Auburn Avenue Research Library, in collaboration with Hammonds House Museum and the Greater Atlanta Chapter of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), will host Sistahs Writing Themselves into Existence: Images of Contemporary Black Women Writers and Scholars by renowned photographer Susan J. "Sue" Ross.

Spanning three decades, Sue Ross has assembled an affecting pictorial survey of major scholars, novelists, poets, and playwrights of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Placing the viewer intimately close to these academic and literary sheroes, these arresting photographs are paired with fascinating texts from each writer on writing—thoughts on the craft, recollections of significant moments from their personal history, and meditations on the civic importance of writing.

The NCNW is a non-profit organization with the mission to advance the opportunities and the quality of life for African American women, their families and communities. This program is free and open to the public at 101 Auburn Avenue NE, Atlanta, GA 30303.
